Based on what I’ve seen in the past year out on the road, there will be no double dip. We never came out of the first recession.

I’ve been in 30 of the 50 states, small towns, etc. People have not seen things get better, at best they’ve seen things not get worse. I hope that things stay as they are now on Main Street and not get any worse, but unemployment will eventually run out, States will have to cut services eventually due to revenue drops, and those that will have jobs won’t spend because they’ll worry about losing such and/or pay down debt.

Don’t blame large corporations for hoarding cash either. They’re going to spend it on increasing employee productivity now and buying back cheap stock or buying companies later. There is no reason to hire. As a small businessman who would like to hire, forget it. With health insurance being an unknown, the high cost of addons like workman’s comp, and state fees, I’ll pass. Besides, if the economy goes the way I think it will, our business will shrink a bit anyway and I’ll be saved the emotional stress of laying someone off. THAT would be the worst.
