Occasionally StocksHaven Investments will review company websites that in some way fit in with the daily life of an investor. Laptops are seen as an essential tool to any day trader’s lifestyle, so this company was deemed a perfect fit for our next review.

Design – The design is mostly grey on white which is generally very pleasing on the eyes. There isn’t too much cluttering, and the menu is easy and smooth to operate. The only major flaw we can identify is the ‘Netbook Accesories‘ and ‘Popular Brands’ menu selections having lists which are too long and move off screen (in the lower portion).

Focus – Place where you can find everything for your Netbook and Laptop. The site is a specialist online retailer of Netbook and Laptop Accessories.

Content – The content of the site matches its focus. It is easily readable, makes sense, however there is no particular section which makes it stand out. From a company point of view the blog feature does seem to add that extra spice which most professional websites lack which is a positive in our eyes. A small flaw we noticed is that they have included videos with ‘funny animated holograms‘ that take away from its professional nature, and in turn might question its validity to a more mature audience.

Writing Style – The writing seems to be at par. Third person point of view, the company shares its point of view in a professional and business etiquette manner.

Grammar and Punctuation – We have noticed no spelling or punctuation mistakes.

Message Effectiveness – Overall the site is effective in putting up its message of being a retailer of Netbook and Laptop accessories.

Website Audience – At first glance one would think that it is meant for a mature audience, however after stumbling upon the blog, it shows sign of immaturity. This is one of the site’s major drawbacks. We would advise to remove random video posts and stick to the fundamentals of professionalism which is seen in the other articles.

Overall Sentiment – The site conveys professionalism mixed with some pretty distinct items such as the Netbook Cases. The flaws were far in between, however there were two: company’s menu where two tabs hang off screen, and the amature style of writing on a few of the articles within the blog section. They should stick to their niche of targetting a well governed audience of computer savvy individuals.

I myself use QuestTrade and absolutely love it! $4.95 commission on every trade, with no monthly fees? Who wouldn’t fall head over heels with this deal. If you’re looking for an RRSP account but with a larger balance and typically trade greater than 790 shares at a time and MORE THAN 50 trades/year, then CIBC Investors Edge is best.
If you’re looking for a non-registered trading account with ridiculously low commissions and margin interest, then Interactive Brokers is a no brainer. There is a $10USD / month minimum fee with IB which means that if you spend less than $10USD in commissions in a month, they will charge the difference to your account. For example, if you spend $6 USD (6 USD trades) in commissions in a month, they will charge you an extra $4 USD. These monthly fees are tax deductible. IB also offers extremely cheap currency exchange. The biggest downside of IB is that you have to pay for your real time data.

Alot of people are making the mistake of jumping on the easiest rather than the best option available when choosing a discount brokerage (i.e. their banks). Don’t be fooled! Ironically, when I first took my investments step I signed up with my bank because it seemed like the easiest thing to do. They kept asking and throwing out smiles at you like a shark stalking its prey — The fact of the matter is that they offer no differences from Questtrade or Etrade.

When it comes to finding out what best fits your needs: be patient, learn, and do your research before you jump in head first. Take the opportunity of having the endless power of information at your fingertips: The Internet.
